IndustryYota's 1984 Pickup Build-Up Thread

So I've given some info on here about my truck being half destroyed in an accident at a gas station in April 2009, but never gave full details. So here is a short version of it.

I stopped to gas up in a little downtown area that has a strange 3-way/ 4-way intersection with a gas station on either side of the major road. I pulled up to the roadside of the pump and got out, put my card in the pump, took it out, put my wallet in my pocket and then woke up on the floor inside the store. I could hardly see or hear and had no idea what was happening. People were around and going crazy. I couldn't talk. Eventually I was able to see out the door and the sky was full of black smoke. I was immobilized by paramedics and taken away in the ambulance to one hospital and then another where I spent the night after going through a ton of . I left the next day in a wheel chair, but was able to walk, slowly.

I found out the next day that a woman had driven through the intersection at 50-60 miles per hour directly into the drivers bedside of my truck. The pictures will show the result.

Since then, I have rebuilt the truck. It is a 1984 longbed that is virtually rust free with only 120,000 miles. I knew I couldn't let it die for good. Before the crash it was on 35 BFG mt's and some old 5" skyjacker springs. It had 5.29 gears, a 4-speed and an Aussie locker in the rear.

Now it has full Trail Gear 4" suspension and High Steer, 5150's, the same 5.29's, a rear axle from an '88, 35 BFG AT's, Aussie lockers front and rear, an All Pro long spline drive shaft, a 5-speed and a wooden sled deck for a bed. The frame was bent and twisted. I was able to take the twist out with my forklift, but had to take it to a shop to get the "diamond" out. I did all of the work Myself except for an extra set of hands here and there. Thanks Al, Dad, Alden, Grace and Ray.

Everything seems to be running well and hopefully stays that way for the drive to Montana in a week.

To come will be a Dual Ultimate transfercase setup, chromoly axles front and rear, get rid of those useless AT's for some 37's (MTR"s, Truxxus, maybe Boggers), I need to build some real bumpers with a winch and some rock sliders. Maybe an in-cab cage.

Sorry for the long winded write up and no build up pics, but this is just another batch of encouragement to keep these things alive!

Man, that's insane. The man upstairs must have been watching out for you on that one. So do you have pics of the accident? and of the truck of course.

The bed is coated in a wax we use on logs and wood to stop the wood checking and cracking. I'll likely build a metal bed in the future, but this will do until then. I also added some coils in the rear to help with the load. The truck sits perfect now with a sled and other weight.
