So i just got done putting in a electric fan out of a some sort of mercury with the 3.8l v6 model ($15). Was easy as heck, because i used all the stock bolts (4) to secure it on the radiator. I ended up not having to cut a thing. Along with a torqflo radiator kit from autozone ($17) i got it all done. I ended up using a relay from the a/c fuse block to power the fan, since i ripped out the a/c awhile ago and it was a 22amp. I hooked up the fan for the low speed for now until i hook up a switch to enable turbo mode for high speed, but right now it cools it just fine.
Anyways i suck at writing things so i just show some pics to show it off. And if someone is planning on doing this, feel free to message me with questions on more pics.

Sorry about the crappy writing, Ive been sick all day and now im high as kite on cold medicine so i can watch the Superbowl tomorrow.
Anyways the torqflo thing is a universal thermostat relay with a metal prod you put inside the radiator hose and you set the temp for on and off.

did you notice any kind of power gain? i've read that belt driven fans can take 15-20hp from a motor, but idk about the 3vze cause its only a 14 inch fan.

 

Definitely not 15-20 hp, maybe a couple from what i felt right away, but then again i didn't drive far. I think the real test will be going up hills. It is really nice having it warm up in half the time and not be loud as hell when its cold.

yeah hills suck. i drive the I-5 from san deigo to seattle every winter and when i hit those steep grades between shasta and eugene i start getting thoughts of a v8 swap.

 

well yeah like i said i was unsure cause its only a 14 plastic inch fan, what i had read was big diesels gained 15-20 on electric fans but this must be due to their size, i.e. 18-24 inch metal fans.

Well if you gain some, you'll loose some from the power it uses. Not much power from both sides but yea, something to think about.

but the power the fan draws is MINIMAL...like...it's a VERY small draw, i believe it's a good size draw when it first kicks on but after it's not...

kinda like HID lights in a sense, LOTS of power comin on, but hardly no power running

 

nitrous is great for laying waste to a 3.4 taco off a light, and yeah it is kinda hard on the wallet when a bottle fill is $50 so i don't use it every day so i think it is the cost that keeps me outta trouble lol.

sorry OP, when ever i post in a tread it some how gets on the subject of nitrous cause i am one of the few who was either genius enough... or dumb enough to use it on a 3.0

its a 22 amp fan right? 22 amps is a lot but idk if that is a big draw on electrical system.

 

How did you wire it up? I have one of those Hayden Imperial adjustable thermostat controllers with probe, but it doesn't have a relay, and I'm stuck on this for now, and the weather hasn't necessarily been inviting......I think we've had rain for 26 days of the last 30.

I'm glad to see someone actually did this and got it to work. All the other threads just talk about how easy it is, and how much better it is than stock/flexalite/taurus, but not a single one has any pictures of an actual swap, which had me wondering for a while.....

 

I can't tell from the pics where you placed the probe.

 

I used that same Torqflo controller. I stuck the sensor in the top radiator hose from the front, between the little piece of foam provided with the kit and the hose itself. You don't want to bend or kink the wire at all. Gentle bends. There will be no leak if you use a screw type hose clamp.

 

Yep i put mine in the same place.

As far as the relay, it is built into it. Its not a typical relay but it is a 240v/20amp
From what i've seen the hayden imperial is the same thing, colors and all. Just a different brand
