22re - Disabling Fuel Injectors

Hey Guys-
I did some searching and couldn't find what I was looking for. Possible I just didn't use the correct combination of words, but here it goes.

I just finished rebuilding my 22RE and I was trying to prime the oil pump. While priming the oil pump, I was also verifying that I had fuel from the injectors. Fuel is verified, but now I would like to disable the Fuel Injectors temporarily while cranking for oil pressure.

I know I can pull off directly at the injector plugs, but with all the intake on, reaching those plugs can be hard, so I'm wondering if there's a different plug / fuse I can use to disable the Fuel Injection temporarily.

If you remove the EFI fuse behind the driver side kick panel that should disable the injectors.

Color me stupid, I didn't think of looking there. I was looking for a fuse for that in the under-hood fuse panel. D'oh.

Thanks.

When I did my timing chain last month and replaced the oil pump, we used petroleum jelly to prime the oil pump when we put it on - bolted it all back and up and started (with injectors) - seemed fine. this was the advice given by several others on this job, and I found this online while researching the job.

Phil-
Did you pull the oil pump off while it was on the engine in the car? I was thinking about doing the petroleum jelly thing just to save some cranking time.

Yes, I did the entire Timing chain, water pump, oil pump replacement (ENGBLDR's kit on eBay - $150.00).

Here's a link to one of the DIY's I used:
http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/timingchain/

the petroleum jelly tactic seemed to work fine. If you really way to lube your engine before running, perhaps crank it by hand with the plugs out, once you've changed the oil and put everything back together? Just an idea.

I'd like other people to weigh in here before you take just my advice however

Well, I wasn't able to disable the Fuel Injectors (pulled the EFI Fuse), but I got oil pressure.

I ended up pulling the relief valve on the oil pump, and filling it with oil. Not sure if it had any affect.

I then Cranked the engine for 20 seconds in 2 10 second bursts. Near the end of the second burst, I got oil pressure to both the cluster electric gauge as well as my aftermarket mechanical gauge, both roughly the same level, and at the same time. So, looks like I'm ready for the real startup now.

Thanks for the help guys.
