mileage v.s. time when it comes to oil changes

i have changed my motor oil religiously for the past 5 years with mobil-1 every 7-8000 miles (9-10 months) now that i have a daily driver other than my yota my truck has had 1300 miles put on it since march still useing mobil-1. I try to drive it atleast 15 miles every 2 weeks just so the batttery doesnt die and keep fluid going thru it. what is better to continue with, my 7k oil changes wich would take who knows how long to build up or is a months better to start keeping track of? A little confused thanks

I have the same situation with both the Runner and my pickup. I joke around that they get an oil change once a year, if they need it or not.

I put 3k miles on the Runner last year and 750 on the pickup.

I'd say if it's just sitting, start it up and drive it at least every couple weeks, and maybe change the oil every year, or two?

stop using mobile one. it's a terrible oil. i wouldn't trust it for 8k miles. plus after time the oil filter will stop filtering even though the oil may still be ok. unless you have a quality filter you should at least change that every 4k. and if it just sits i would change it at least twice a year.

Depends how you drive. Does it sit inside in a nice climate controled garage just the daily condensation from cooling and warming out side would be enough for me to want to change oil every couple of months If we are talking a street legal vehicle.

your spare if you use it say every couple weeks put a few hundred miles that weekend or if you put on less then 100 stopping and starting every 5 minutes..

I have a drive to work of 5 miles on that 4runner i change at least every 3 moths .

there are other people that have a spare vehicle drive a couple hundred miles a year and have not changed oil for 5 years

I have numerous trucks that get driven less than 3k miles a year. I get the oil changed once a year at the dealer. For $29 it ain't worth the hassle of doing it myself. It also makes all the techs drool.

My Amsoil gets replaced once a year, about 12k miles. I have a servicable filter that gets cleaned every 1000-1500 miles. I love having the oil filter right up top, so easy to maintain.
