Can someone give me some advice on how I take my rear shocks off? It does not seem like there is enough room to take the top nut off, do I have to jack up the car to change the shocks? I need some help on this! TIA

whats this on? on my truck is was very easy im tryin to figure out what your driving cause it took me longer to break the bolts loose then it did to put them on. and if its a truck you wont need to jack it up i changed mine with the truck sittin on the floor

 

Sorry, about that I completely forgot to specify. Its a 1990 4runner completely stock, except the 31's (I think anyway) 4wd. The only shocks I have ever done were on a 1995 Kenworth w9 and that was easy, just hoping this will be easy. My frony shocks dont look to bad.

yeah, need the truck info. on both my rigs i changed the rear shocks by just lying under the truck.

 

I replaced the front and rear shocks on my '95 this weekend. You don't need to jack it up. I did all 4 laying on the ground. The top nut on the rear can be reached with a little effort. It's a 14mm nut. The problem is, however, that the shock is going to turn with the nut. I used a pair of channel locks to lock the shock in place, and then it came right off.

I got them done, They were easy with the exception of the rear ones haha. I had to end up grinding them off. I think they were the original shocks.... I do notice a difference of how it sits after the shocks.

So i know your done, but Usually the top of the pin is squared so u can fit a wrench on top and then a wrench on the nut too. its kinda tight in there but it works.

 

I tried to use two wrenches like that it was just way to rusted.... The runner is from SLC, UT where they use TONS and TONS of salt to melt the snow and so there was tons of rust and corrosion!

 

O see I live in south Arizona so no rust for me. and plenty of PB blaster

i used a 2post lift to change my rear shocks, just because it was there and i could use it LOL

i did a loottttt of my stuff on a lift got lucky i guess

i have full access to a NICE shop in Muldrow, OK but i rarely go over there LOL it has lifts and just about any tool you can imagine, as well as a paint booth LOL and a nice 1971 Hemi Cuda
