HELP! 22re timing chain noise....just replaced it!!!

hey guys. i was going to see if anybody can help me diagnose a certain little (and quite nerve racking) noise i have discovered on my 22re.

i JUST replaced the timing chain guides, tensioner, and heavy duty guides and got it all back together. it runs great but it has a pinging or knocking noise upon acceleration that was NEVER THERE BEFORE!!!.

im beginning to think that i may have possibly put the bottom timing sprocket one notch off on the crank pulley and that excess link is pinging on the driver's side heavy duty guide when it rides it. or maybe i slightly turned the cam slightly to the right when i was adjusting the chain.

any input would be greatly appreciated thank you!

yeah i took the valve cover off and everything looked good. i shined a flashlight down and everything looked good. i think i may have gotten it off one link or maybe accidently rotated the cam slightly while the chain was off and there maybe a smidgen of extra slack.... thanks for the help, im gonna inspect it one more time and see if i may have missed anything....or see if i can get that extra slack to tighten up.

oh....and another thing. is it possible to replace the oil pump wrong? cause it almost sounds like the top end isn't getting oil...but then again when i pulled off the valve cover there was plenty of oil on the rockers so idk....

Check your vacuum hoses where the brake booster goes into the intake. Make sure it and the PCV hose are not swapped.

Where did you get the tensioner? How did you hold it back while putting the sprocket on the cam? Screwdriver? Do you have the right bolts in the right spot on the chain cover? If you have a long bolt in the wrong hole you will bind the tensioner.
