I'm in the putting back together stage of the Fan Idler Bracket repair.

Took me about an hour to figure out that the 4 extra bolts I couldn't find a place for came off the skid plate, NOT the mounts for the bracket and PSP pump.

Anyhow, as far as resealing the water outlet. Is it as simple as cleaning the mating surfaces running a generous bead of the high-temp rtv around, cranking it down and wiping off the excess?

Just want to make sure there's no trick I'm missing. I checked the Chilton guide but is mostly worthless.

 

There is a special RTV that resists coolant better. Its called "water pump and thermostat housing sealant" made by Permatex.

Heh, when I do more complicated stuff, I put bolts in separate ziplocs with a little note in there like 'skid plate'.

Yeah, just clean the mating surfaces real good, wipe them with carb or brake cleaner to be sure they're squeaky clean, then apply a small bead of FIPG and reassemble. Don't crank down too hard on those little nuts!

 

Missed the anti-sieze trick. Already had the job done.

Hopefully this will be the last time it comes apart....while I own it anyway.

Thanks for the tips guys. It all went back together nicely and the belts are quiet and turning nicely. I'll try to give it a little road test in the next few days to make sure its all good.
