Which 60mm TB for my 22re wil plug and play?

Looking to upgrade the MAF and TB to bigger units- I got the part# for the MAF- 1982 Supra, but the TB has me stumped for a 60mm unit to plug and play with my 1990 22re, except for boring the intake, I don't want any wiring/linkage hassles????

This from a vender- I don't know how to answer her?

Are you sure you want the 7mge TB? It has the idle port built in. Maybe you want the 5mge or 7mgte TB?

Seems like the logical answer is have yours bored out. Otherwise get one of the other engine TB's and do a write up. Do keep in mind that if you truly searched the TB question and didn't find the answer, it may be simply due to the fact ppl seldomly brag about there failures.

First of all, our toyotas don`t have a MAF, they have an AFM, there is a big diference between the two. second, a 7mge throttle body won`t work on a 22RE, its to big and won`t bolt on, ive already looked into this in the past.

Thanks, got a 5mge tb coming, we'll see.
Yes we're learning about the Toyota management systems as well- I found a link to a MAF conversion, very interested in pursuing this for the size and constriction issues.

The primary benefit to converting to MAF is more accurate air flow readings. Other than that, the stock 22RE VAFM can flow enough air to satisfy even a turbo'd engine to over 150HP.

I'm thinking more size and mounting flexibility, the Supra afm is huge, what saves the stock unit is it sits on top of the airbox.

Or you can just make your own box:

See, there's a perfect example The GM maf would save 6in on that 90deg leg.

I'm sitting on the fence about the battery relocate- even have the cable installed but picked up a Caprice LT1 air cleaner with a 3in opening perfect for the afm that would sit close to the stock location then run a 3in steel pipe to it.

Thats where my Supra AFM sat before in the stock location with no filter box and cone filter. I used some 3" flex line from Autozone. Easy peesy.

So, since you have done both....and I've had it from someone else too that either location makes very little difference. You agree?

hmmmm, well does it make a difference? I'm sure it does, what kinda numbers you looking for? It may take MULITPLE things working TOGETHER to make the difference...I'm just sayin it is a 22R-E. I did MY mod for a reason(plus there was a bet goin too ) and combined it with FIVE other mods to get what I have. So, YEAH, just swappin the intake to the other side MAY only provide a small difference if nothin else is changed. It DOES help with access to the front of the motor.

You don't see guys putting hi flow exhuasts on their trucks and then leaving the stock intake on...

You can either do it or not do it.

However, if you're gonna use a box from another vehicle and pipe in air from the grill so not to pull air from the engine bay, then go for it! Its probably A LOT easier than what I did!

I think I've done enough things to make this mod compliment the others as well. The box won't fit by itself so I'm going to try to graft the LT1 outlet/top unto a spare oe top so I can reuse the oe bottom- I already have the oe K&N and the cone K&N is pretty pricey here at $75, which even if it works I will still have the option of which side to mount the box. The 5mge TB came in and it's the wrong TPS

I tried to do the same thing on my 91 22re. The Supra AFM plug and played fine. Where I ran into an issue is that TB. The 91 22RE TB has the aux air valve bolted to the underside of the TB. The 5mge TB had a different set up.

I believe this works if you're 22re is a pre 89/90.

Can anybody comment on this?

Mines on the bottom as well. The more I look into the TB issue- the more I like the LCE bored out unit- less bs to deal with, but at their price- it ain't going to happen. Anybody out there doing this at a more affordable price? I tried to take a 1992 tb and smooth out the bore transition- left the blade/bore alone and slabbed the throttle shaft (cut it in 2) with better ss pan head screws loctited- but the idle surges and won't come down- put WD to the tb to see if there were leaks- nothing, tps set the same as the 1990 tb? Gave up on that one. The only difference I could see between the two was the 1992 has a dashpot- the 90 doesn't, and as soon as vacume hits it it pulls away from the idle screw anyway. Didn't try it before playing with the 92- so I don't know if it had problems before or not.

I like the LCE's bored out throttle body as well, but, can't afford that right now.

Wonder if an 88 22re intake plenum would fit on a later 22re lower intake?

Most likely.

Finally adjusted up the valves to .010/.010 Comp specs and I must say that even though it's their smallest 22r cam and it's too icy to really let her rip- I'm very pleased with what I have done- even before fabbing a new intake system with a stock tb.

- ignition adv 4deg, super conductor wires, NGK G-power
- ebay head- bigger valves- mild port, gasket match
- intake ported, bored- upper lower air dams removed, gasket matched, injector areas filled
- cleaned/flowed injectors- a note I didn't notice before- these are multi hole, and do have a specific orientation
- LCE header, dynomax cat back
