Hey guys, just bought a set of 500FF's to go on my new bumber I'll be ordering this week from Adicted Off Road (assuming you guys aren't taking an extended Christmas vacation Scotty! ), and I'm curious to how your guys are mounting some lights up to tube style bumpers other than welding tabs to the bumper. I don't have a welder, and I'd rather have something that's just an add-on and maybe removable; some sort of clamp-on mouting tab or something... but I have yet to see anything along the lines of that...

Also, any of you 500 or 500FF owners out there have any issues with moister getting behind the lense assembly? I removed the fastening screw and took a look back there, and I don't see any sort of gasket, rubber ring, or foam or aything just curious.



And you better bet that pics will be posted once this bumper is on this truck hell, might even throw in a few in-progress pics, cause you know how SuperBleeder rolls

 

I have the 700ffs, every now and then ill see moisture behind them but its nothing too bad. It goes away when i turn on the lights tho. I dont really like how its all held together with 1 screw that goes in to plastic.

I added a 2nd relay and then added 100w bulbs, really bright, you should do the same.

Not a properly done setup. I used to have one of those crappy PnP HID setups in the e-code housings on my Pickup. I had them for about a year. They're crap, plain and simple.

If you retrofit a set of Infinity FX35 bi-xenon projectors, you will be flat out amazed at the quality of light output, intensity, and all the while not blinding people. Trust me. OEM retrofit or FXR is far superior than most halogen setups, all the while causing less stress on your electrical system.

Are you talking to me? I've done the FX35 retrofit on my e36 M3. It's incredible. Fitting the FX's into H4 housings is a tight fit, but can be done with ease. I have a second set of the FX's sitting here which will be going into the Pickup.

From another forum I frequent- FX35 bixenon projectors fitted into h4 housings on a MKIII Supra, which has LESS room to mount things than these trucks do due to the pop-up headlight design:

I'd just do some weld on tabs (get Scotty to do it) cause anything else won't work as well IMO.

Just interesting you got a build thread about a bumper you don't have yet (i.e., ready, fire, aim as opposed to ready, aim, fire)

While HID's don't like to be turned on and off frequently, your statement is only half correct.

The FX35's are bi-xenon. They use a shield that would be powered by your high beam wire/ground that's connected to a solenoid that's part of the projector housing. When you flick on your highs, the bulb stays ignited, but the solenoid for the shield is powered, pulling it down, thus allowing light to hit the bottom of the bowl (which is reflected up = high beams)

That's why I suggested the FX's- they're fantastic, durable, easy design, easy to understand, pretty cheap ( http://store.theretrofitsource.com/ for replicas that are damn near as good as the OEM's, and easier to mount!)

You don't lose ANY functionality with these, which makes them an excellent candidate. I'll post pictures when I to the truck retro, but I've got lots of other stuff on my plate before I get into that. /threadjack

X2 on converting to HID when you decide you want more light. You can get a good quality 35W HID kit for about $40.

I'll be in the shop tomorrow or you can order the bumper online. I can weld on tabs as well as long as i have measurements for an extra $15
