Oil pressure gauge fluctuation

Hello all, I have a 94 4runner with the 3.0 motor. It seems as if i may have an issue(hopefully) with the sending unit for the oil pressure gauge. A few days ago it seemed pretty high. Above the normal range. Now today it seems to be actin gwierd. Upon accelerating, the oil pressure drops according to the gauge. When cruising down the highway at normal speed it goes up. What do you think?

Just went out to look at the sending unit. the rubber portion of the wire is cracked and the internal yellow wire is exposed. There is no performance issues at all. Sending unit???

How cold is it outside and what weight oil are you using? Do you have enough oil in the crankcase?

If pressing the throttle down causes the oil pressure to drop, the pump may be sucking air (cavitating) if the oil is too heavy, causing the gauge to read low.

I usually like to hook up a mechanical gauge if an electronic one is reading funny. Let you know if you actually have a pressure problem or an electrical problem.
