My SUV will not engage in the reverse or drive gears. There is not sound when I try to engage in reverse or drive either. The motor sound is consistent to when the car is in park. I noticed that the L gear light wasn't turning on and started moving the gear shifter and after about twenty times of moving it from D to L the light started turning on. It does have a fly wheel. And due to the L light problem i believe it have to do with the shifting bar not sending signal to the transmission. Please add your input so I can get rid of this problem

 

Not sure what sort of vehicle you are asking about, might help to get a better answer. But try checking the shift linkage underneath the vehicle and see if it is connected.
