94 22re rough idle bad mpg no power help
#1
Hi all, I've been fighting with this for a while now. I've searched other peoples problems tried this and that all to no avail. About a year ago I over heated my stock motor and did a swap with another 22re. The truck ran good for about 4 months or so until it smoked a cam bearing. I swapped my old head (had it checked out) back on without a hitch or so I thought. Since that swap I've been getting about 14-15 mpg with a rough idle and no power. I had to advance the timing a good amount to keep it idleing. All my marks line up on the timing chain so I really don't think that has anything to do with it. I recently checked all my vacuum lines again. I found a few that were wrong, switched them and the idle smoothed a little bit to the point that I could hold onto the shifter at a stop light. Both o2 sensors are new. I was checking spark and found that if I pull the wires off while the truck is running on the #2 plug nothing happens. That plug was pretty black and stunk of gas (kind of like my exhaust) when I pulled it. I tried another changing the plug but it didn't help. There is spark getting to the plug though. Driving the truck dosen't feel that bad, that is whats confusing me. Once above idle it seems to smooth out, but is definitly down on power. Any help would be greatly appreciated, I'm almost to the point of just getting rid of the thing. Thanks

Just going out on a limb, have you checked the resistance of the #2 wire with an ohm meter? Compare the resistance of it with another of a similar length. If the resistance is too high, think of replacing the wires.
Maybe you might have a bad distributor cap?

check compression, Ive been fighting my truck for the past 4 or 5 months, and i had a compression test don and we confirmed it was a burnt valve. well if you have spark on 2 and fuel then you probably got really low compression.

When I pull the wire off while the truck is running, the spark starts jumping all over the place leading me to thinking the wire is fine. But I could be wrong on that. I'd really hate for it to be compression, but I suppose it's my next step to check. The head was checked out no more then 5000 miles ago so I doubt it could be a valve.
