hey guys I need some help!

Hey, I have searched on here and couldnt find anything! I need some help, I was driving yesterday at 20 miles per hour in 4wd high and It started to squeel really loud so I pulled over and put it in 2wd and it went away so when I was able to stop somewhere off the road I looked and there is grease all over looks like packing grease maybe for CV axle or joint?!? I really some help... I will take some pics of what is Im talking about. I was driving in 4wd because of snow and ice.

Thanks
Julian

Welcome to YT and thank you......for coming prepared with pictures. You wouldn't have gotten such straightforward and definitive answers with just that question alone.

But the squeeling may not have been the cv shaft. Though it still needs to be replaced. The spindle bearings in these trucks go dry on greese and spueal and grumble when it gets cold. Just make sure you greese the well when you change it.

You didn't list your location but you can find these CV axle pretty cheap from guys like me when we SAS our trucks. I bought 2 for $30 about two years ago. Changing these axles is rather straight forward.

Goodluck and welcome.

You didn't have too, but you may want to check craigslist. If you were up this way I got two. Perhaps someone down that way has spares.

What happens is once the boot tears dirt, grit, and water get in and wear out the joint. So it the boot isn't torn and the shaft doesn't have excessive play when twisted its good. It'd save you some coin if thats a concern.

Look in the faqs section, depending on the year you may be able to download a factory service manual (FSM), I'd go so far as to its a must and hell free or cheap most of the time. The FSM will tell you the long way to swap axles, the driver side is easier than the passenger. Search for "cv replacements" I've seen write ups before, also its a good time to inspect TRE, wheel bearings, ball joints, the other CV. Perhaps you can avoid future issues.

Also search for "spindle lubricator". I made one out of PVC pipe cap worked good till the grease got cold then couldn't pump grease anymore.

Can you tell me what the TRE is? The ball joints are good, her friend from work was a mechanic and he said that everything as far as ball joints and a arms and brakes were good when he checked... that was only 7 months ago. Oh and I plan on changing both driver and passenger

Thanks guys for that... I looks good after I figured out that Opera really wont download .torrent files... had to get BitTorrent. there is alot of great info there Hey this is a bit off the CV subject but can anyone tell me why all my power lock motors siezed all at once? My battery was dieing due to a bad diod in the alternator. I had to push start it. and then my locks would not go up or down I had to take all the door panels off and bend the metal on the motor just to be able to lock them being that I have a stereo system! I have a friend that works for toyota and he quoted me $170 for all the locks lock motors and ignition all pre keyed just to replace the motors. It sounds like a good deal being that my key wont roll down my rear window.

Won't your power locks work with a healthy alternator? Seems to me.
