4th gear grinds???

4th gear grinds???
i have an 86 runner 22re and all my gears work fine in 1st 2nd 3rd 5th and reverse but everytime i try and shift to 4th it makes a grinding noise before it catches!!! its gotten to the point where i skip my fourth gear all together??? any ideas?

You can either rebuild or find a boneyard transmission to replace it.
A rebuild is gonna be nasty expensive, so I'd go the boneyard transmission route.
I paid over $1k to get mine rebuilt, but I had more money than time to deal with it (at the time). Mine was completely shot and the 4runner is my primary means of transportation. If I were in your shoes, I could limp around while shopping for a replacement.

I have an 89 22re and have been experiencing this problem quite a lot recently. Have you been able to find the problem and/or got it fixed?
