CV removal, need help!

Hey all, need to pull the driver's side axle to replace a torn CV boot on my '00 4Runner.
I have the spindle disconnected, the axle nut off, the caliper and rotor off, don't know what to do next or how to get the axle out of the hub. Don't know how to get it out of the diff either.
Any advice and direction would be really really appreciated.

Hit the axle end with a rubber mallet or 2x4! It will knock loose!

Once it slides out of the spindle, you can pop the CV out of the diff with a by prying it out with a flat head or something similar.

It it, with a hammer or somthing, its not pressed in or anything, should come out with a good knock.

Then pry put the shaft from the diff, sometimes crawling to the opposite side, and hitting the flange from behind is the best way to get it out.

Thank you! i wasn't sure if it just knocked out or not, I didn't want to go hitting it in case I was missing something!

Pry bar is a must to get it out of the diff, or something that can be wedged between the axle tulip and the diff. I would put the nut on the end of the axle shaft, just a few turns, so that you don't ruin the threads with bad aim.

putting the nut back on is a good idea.

I just use a rubber mallet and whack it like I was hitting my driver down a wide fairway that would accompany my 50 yard hook

That's what I used a big brass punch and a 5lbs drilling hammer.

cv removal

hey there....
well the best tool to remove the axle from the hub is using a three jaw puller to equally apply pressure all the way around....using a hammer will risk damaging the threads in turn wouldn't be able to put the nut back on.... then your screwed causing more work for yourself....or money......

Just to add - they do make hard plastic/rubber dead blow mallets that work great for whacking things where you do not want the harm the metal. I have had mone for over 10 year and use it all the time.

Yeah I said that twice.

Anything brass, plastic, raw hide, wooden, rubber or what have you mallet will work. I really think its a waste of time to try a gear puller on something that isn't a tapered fit or pressed in.

Just whack the end of it with a rubber mallet, and then use a prybar to pop the cv out.

I've done this a lot.
