Exclamation 84 pickup rebuild Oil smells of gasoline!!!

my yotatech amigos. I finished the rebuild, got er running, got er to pass smog, but am pretty sure the oil is getting contaminated by gas. I replaced the oil right before my smog test, and this time I passed, though I also adjusted the valves again (more accurately) and replaced the threads in my number 4 spark plug hole, which was loose. I replaced the rings in my rebuild, so I'm surprised I'm getting this much gas in my oil. It had been running rich, and maybe still is (I was getting high CO in my emissions test). What could be causing this? How can I tell? You guys rock!d

i havent had this problem yet on my 4runner but on the vehicle before her godliness i had a 02 mitsi lancer. Had the same issue where gas and oil were mixing. I replaced the valve cover gasket and had no more issues?

interesting. but I don't see how the valve cover gasket would come into play. Isn't the valve cover gasket only keeping the oil in the camshaft? Tell me why this worked for you.

Long time ago, I had a similar problema, caused by a busted "mechanical" fuel pump. salud amigo.
