Should i swap my grill for a 4runner grill?

I was thinking of swaping my 91 pickup grill out for the blacked out headlight inserts around the head light grill of a 90 or 91 4runner. same grill basically but i realy like the 4runner grill from 90 to 91. what do you guys think?

this grill

that doesn't look like a huge design difference, so the radiator support should be the same, I think

if you can pick the grill and ligh buckets up cheap, then sure why not

you could, but the grill's are slightly different... I see what he's talking about; the 2nd grill doesn't hae the two verticle bars and what-not... it is a cleaner looking grill I think as well

there is something about the 4runner grill that i have always liked better than mine. i was going to just paint my headlight buckets but then noticed the difference in the actual grill of the 4runner and now i want the hole deal haha. so you guys think it will not be too bad? im going to try and find one and get some prices

search eBay too; I know you can get new lower valances for pretty cheap price; you may be able to get a complete grill too!

couldn't tell ya how the quality would be though

If its the blacked out pockets you want. just paint yours. I think the pick-up grille witht the two vertical bars looks better.

I have the face-lift on my runner, and have a grille assmbly from my 91 that i would like to swap but i dont really like the idea of haveing the sway the baffle panel in behind. I may just cut out the pocket the light mounts too and just make the grille mount myself.

I'm thinking of doing something to mine, either black 2wd or something, so let us know how it fits.

i might still paint mine but i think i like the look of the runner grill without the vertical bars. besides the vertical bars is the 4runner grill the same? it kinda looks like it stickes out farther than the pickup one? oyah and 94Beast i would switch the grill to the 91 over the 92 to 95 grill personally

I plan on it i like the look and i like the lights better. my celica has them and i swapped in h4's and love it.
The issue is making it work. i'm licensed bodyman so it can be done but some of the grille mounting tabs are way off of the other ones but i'm going todo it for sure.
And i plan on painting the whole grille flat black. not a big fan of chrome.

sounds cool man! i like the grill chrome but not much else chrome, i kinda like the look of it flat back too though. and yes the fact the grill says TOYOTA rather the symbol would make me switch too.

Only 92-95 4Runners grills are different. These swaps require a core support change which is a much bigger job.

Is there any special prep work that needs to be done to paint the chrome grills black? Does the chrome have to be removed or scuffed?

i would think you would have too scuff the chrome off a bit too get the paint to stick. thats what i was going to do if i paint mine. i might put my friends light buckets off his 4runner on mine today to see how it looks. i will try and get pics too

definitely don't waste your time trying to paint chrome with out scuffing. i just tried "adhesion promoter" over chrome. after that and paint, it came right off as soon as i pulled tape. must scuff chrome.

paint the grille insert and lower valence blue to match the body. you'll have a chrome upper strip grille, and chrome lower strip bumper. smoooth.

I painted all the chrome on the front end black. I tried flat black but it didn't hold up so I redid it with semi-gloss.
