Hydro-Locked

Ok so first off no I do not have pictures yet. I forgot my camera but there were others taking pictures so they'll come later.

Went out playing today and well as the title suggests hydro-locked the runner. 3.0 that already had a slight knock. Now with saying that the knocking was on top and still is but it's knocking much, much more. Before it would only knock at certain RPM's and it really was not bad. Needing fixed yes but very drive able. Now I'm not taking it anywhere.

Could this possible be valve related or is it the wrist pin. I would be really happy if all I had to do was the heads and valves but I really think I'm going to end up rebuilding it. The knocking it definitely coming from the upper end and not the lower. Sounds to be around #3 or #5.

I'm thinking my only option is the 3.0 kit from engnbldr and add the timing belt and head bolts. I'd be about $400.00.
.
So watch ya all think? No I don't have the cash for a swap.

Change oil and put back in 10W30-40. Sure its a knock knock sound and not a tap tap clack clack sound?

Well I know of one thing it's much worse than it was before this happened. I check the Oil and it's fine. Not milky at all. Only about 1K on the oil at best.

Well you know the basic physics stuff right? You cannot compress a liquid so if water got in the cumbustion chamber and it was a good bit something might ahve got bent.... valve... rod.... hows the truck run? You might ahve and axuilary air valve i think its called that is not working properly.... it looks like a small version of an egr valve its on the left side of the engine(looking at front of engine).... try disconnecting the vac line to it... and see if it stops.... You may have a rod bearing knocking sometimes its hard to tell where it comes from..... does it knock when cold or hot?

It does it hot and cold...I just went and started it and it does it. Now that I'm listening a little closer it's more of a bad Tap tap tap than a knock. It's really gutless now but I'm not losing any coolant and there is non in the oil.

Could the tapping I had before have been from a bad valve and the hydro-lock made it that much worse? Maybe bent something? Maybe this is why I was getting 10MPG and she felt a bit weak?

It might have messed with the valves alittle bit. If ur hearing constant tap and more so up throttle increase that would lead me to believe valve tap.... this happens every so often in 3VZ-E's .....yea unless you got monster tires and big lift 10mpg is joke..... and possible valves are out of spec.... does it miss fire or run rough? A v6 should run completely smooth with no shaking and or missing.....

Not missing or running rough...well until today now it will not idle.

I'm only running 33X10.50 and have factory 4.88's When I got it with 31's I think it was getting 12MPG maybe 13. Haven't driven it much at all. So maybe I'll just pull the heads and check/replace the valves. How do you adjust these ones, shims right? Not real sure how to do these ones but I"m sure I can figure it out.

yea um...... if want to buy a shim kit you can but they are pricey..... but yes they adjusted using shims and they require a specail tool to get em out unless you fo like i did one time and get 2 small screw drivers and a magnet and pry it up.... use some carb cleaner on em and they will come up easier.....

Well it's definitely not sounding like it's going to come through the block but it's not a good sound at all. I guess from this last start a little bit ago it's more of a bad tap than a knock. It really sounds like it's coming from a head not the block.

Either way I'll have to work on the heads right? so maybe I'll start with the valves see if one is stuck/bent now and take ift from there. Might see if a buddy can stop over and put an ear to it as well...

I took the boy out and he told me he wanted to go through the puddle...I saw that the Taco made it...he was a bit higher and I believe the intake is on the other side (Pass side) I think. So I went for it and we stopped in the middle.

I had the strap on the back already so I didn't get all wet but it took the Locked Taco and a Jeep Unlimited to get me out. Also busted a tow hook on the Taco ripped it right out.

I know the guy's got some pic's I hope they get them out to me soon. The lil puddle ended up being about 4' deep. It the water was creeping in the passenger side and almost got the ECU. That was the only think I was really worried about.

After we got stuck the boy asked me why we went in...
Kids...
