What kind of off roadin' can I do in my 2wd?
I just picked up my first toyota/4runner. Its a 2wd. I've never been off roading but I love camping and would love to hit some trails in the 4runner. What would be too much off road for the 2wd? I think I need to find a 4wd buddy and roll behind him.

sell it and buy a 4x4. or just know your limitations. with the right tires you can go through some mean mud. but 4wd makes it so much easier. just like my atv i have a raptor 350 and i know my limitations. anything soft requires some momentum and throttle control. if you put a locker in it you might go farther than some unlocked 4wd's. lol! nice runner i love black!

dirt roads and trails should be no problem. don't go into anything soft. any kind of hard ground and i don't even bother putting mine into 4wd. but yeah if you want to actually get into offroading, you're gonna need 4wd.

^^2X Lock it and some bigger shoes. As TNRabbit said you will be low so your going to have to keep a close eye on the rocks. Stay with someone with 4wd if you are in unfamiliar territory, don't push so hard going in you can't get out.

I would just use some common sense when trailing....and don't get stuck someware....buy a portable wench to take a long that mounts to a hitch or something...there are a lot to choose from on the market....have fun!!

rule one NEVER go anywhere that you may get stuck alone second get some armor and like said above more aggressive tires a locker and maybe a winch if you cant get one buy a good pull strap i have one and its 10,000 pounds rated with big metal hooks

Well this is a testament to how far a 2wd can get you...

The locker forces the rear wheels to spin together instead of 1 spinning when your stuck.
Look into these...Not sure if you have a 22re or a 3.0. Aussie just started making a Locker for the 3.0
These are nice for the price. But an E-Locker or an ARB would be the best way to go.

Well, since it's 2WD you could probably set it up to go to the dunes and do some racin' lol.
Not all off roading is done in the rocks or in the woods.
Oh and, a locker is a mechanism in the rear differential that locks both rear tires together.
they move at the same rate, and they allow power to both wheels.
search through the site if you need any help
Oh and, welcome to yotatech

It's a 95 with a 3.0. I've only had it for a month and I've been doing a lot of maintenace things to get it running smooth. The car had been sitting for several months. I've already blown a nice wad on seals and random parts. The pull strap sounds more affordable than the wench. At least for now.

ive gone many places in my 1WD 3rd gen, NEVER alone, unless i knew i could walk home
still havent gotten myself stuck, >< that close though...
a locker is next on the list.
just installed some OME suspension, so hopefully the stuff i barely scraped will pass under next time. the running boards may finally come off too

I have too much invested in my 2wd 94 3.0 to try and sell for a 4wd with possible unknown issues. I have a Spanking new engine and super clean runner. I goin with ome springs shocks. Bj spacer. After that a new 8 in rear with 5.29 and a locker some tube crawling bumpers, remove the runner boards. I just slapped new brakes (rotors, calipers, pads). Already Rollin 31 bfgs. It's a automatic so geared alittle too tall
