V8 Toyota 4runner gauge options??

I have a sbc engine in my 1990 4runner and want the factory gauges to work. I could use some help finding the tach output wire that I can hookup to the coil as for the temp I have an idea to use a stock v6 unit from a junkyard along with oil pressure unit I just need the gauge to work and dont want to blow the cluster so on that I could also use some help on getting the right sending unit and the right wire to in the cluster to run to.

All the factory gauges work in my truck.

For the tach, I probed the wires and found the wire in the harness that was connected to the tach input on the gauge. I then spliced that wire into the tach ouput terminal on my HEI distributor.

Once I had it hooked up, I had to adjust the potentiometer in the cluster to compensate for a V8. I used a timing light that had an RPM readout and matched it to that.

For the oil pressure gauge, I used the stock Toy sender and wire. I had to get a 90 degree adapter so it would fit under the distributor.

I used a reducer to fit the stock water temp gauge sender in the block, along with the original wire.

Thanks for the info. Do you know what wire is from the tach? I also need what wire from the cluster is for the temp and oil pressure someone cut the wires I can probe them like you said but if I can get a color of what wires I need that would help so much and save me a load of work.

I cant remember off the top of my head. When I get some time I can check. Might be a while though. Plus, mine is a 1st gen, yours is a 2nd, so its probably not the same.

One way to find out is to download an FSM and go through the wiring diagrams.

Here's a link
