so i stripped the banjo bolt for the fuel line that is going in to the cold start injector. i already got a new bolt, and i was hoping that the female threads on the injector weren't too buggered up. unfortunately they are. that injector is $200 from toyota, so i REALLY don't want to put a new one on there. i was hoping i can put a tap set in those threads and revive them enough to get a good enough clamp load on the fuel ine. i'm pretty sure the bolt is an M8x1.0. can someone verify that thread size before i tap the mating hole? i'm sure it's either that or an M8x1.25, but by me measuring the threads, i'm leaning towards 1.0. i just don't wanna screw this up. thanks in advance.

 

Helicoil it?

 

1 step at a time. the threads are still there, they didn't rip out, they're just boogered up. so i'm hoping a tap will clean them up enough to be able to use. if it doesn't work, THEN i'll look into helicoil. but first things first, i'm gonna try tapping it if i can for sure find the right size.

 

Call Toyota, or take the banjo bolt to an Ace hardware store, they have a big selection of metric nuts and bolts, and find a nut that threads to the bolt. That will tell you what you need to know.

 

fyi, for anyone that might need to know in the future, it is an M8x1.0 bolt pitch, NOT 1.25. and it worked great!

 

Can you tell me where you found a new M8x1.0 banjo bolt?

 

I got a few at the dealer just in case I lose one like I seem to do in the wee hours of the morning.

Since I only wanted a few I didn`t even look else where.

 

I just want to thank the OP for this post, saved me some hours of toil for sure, and mention those banjo bolts are in a ton of fuel injected '80's 90's toyota cars at the scrapyard, good place to check for copper washers that aren't too dented also. Some of the cold start injectors, like on tercels i think it was, even had like a tire valve to fit a pressure gauge to. They're not identical and the bolts are a different size, but hey they just might work on a truck fine. Will try it some day.
