Drum roll please!!! new addition to my toyota family

ok guys..its a done deal i just got back from Alma, AR pickin up the new addition to my toyota family i got goin on ('80, '86, now '92)

went real smooth..turns out i have to buy an oil pan, oil pan bolts, tie rod nut that holds the tie rod onto the pitman arm, and a couple of cotter pins..just to start

the body ground coming off of the battery is burnt in half for some reason..im thinkin something's messed up somewhere unfortunately..wires dont just burn up..(although its not very big gauge wise??)

so..i know everybody is gonna say WHERES THE DANG'D OLE PICS!!!!!!!!

but they will have to wait until tomorrow as it is way to dark outside now HAHAHA

it has a Toyotaoffroad.com windshield banner on it so i'm gonna see if i can find the previous owner on that website!!!

PICS TO COME I PROMISE!!!!!!!

hahaha well whats supposed to happen is when you turn the key in the tailgate, the window rolls down. Then you can use the inside handle to drop the tailgate. If both are broken though, that would make things difficult.

Congrats on the new toyota, and welcome to the 2nd Gen 4runner Family!

Yep its for the window, I don't even think I've used mine yet but thats the only way it opens. If you have time you may want to give the window/ tailgate some TLC. Mine works put it seems like it struggles a bit.

you'll have to roll the rear window down, then unlock the tailgate to open it. You can do it with either the switch at the center console, or the key cyl in the tailgate itself if stuff is working.

If it won't work, first make sure the rear wiper is in its "home" position. If it isn't, rear window won't work. Make sure the rear window lock switch isn't "locked". This switch basically interrupts the ground wire going to the rear window ECU/Relay board. If this lock switch is bad, then the rear window still won't work. Mine was bad, I just bypassed the window lock switch. If you need me to scan the Toyota EWD for the rear window circuit just let me know and I can email it to you. I keep the EWD in my truck "just in case"

The rear windows are famous for corrosion/rust issues.

Once you get the tailgate open pull the panel off and grease all the tracks. I bet they are dry as a bone!

Then you can check the condition of the motor and so on.

thanks Jay!..i'll be doin alot of little things like that tomorrow!

like putting a couple pieces back on the dash where the PO took out the stereo

getting a nut and 2 cotter pins for the tie rod

and probably checking to see if i have any play in the crankshaft main bearings or rod bearings

the rod bearing that was screwed on my '86 WAS BAD!!!! i could hold the rod end cap (while the rod is still in the motor with just the oil pan off) and i could move it about 1/4 in LOL

if i dont find anything wrong just by doing that..then im going to turn the motor over by hand and keep checking..and find out what the knock is

heck it dont even have any damn oil in it right now!!! the Ahole took the pan off and did something with it..idk what..

hook a battery up to the window and rollit down and remove the cover and pull on the two cables, one on each side, and waa laa, your tailgates open.

Yeah, I forgot to say that, if you can't get the window down. Just apply direct power to the motor (switch power/ground to change direction of the motor).

If the motor is bad you can replace it with a motor from any door from a pickup or 4runner..

Too bad you are in OK. There is a yard up here in WA with half a dozen 2nd gens and they just about give parts away. I usually walk away with a load of parts (ebay value over $300) for less then $100. Come to think about it, I should scalp some parts on Fleabay to make some header money!! YESS!!

If there is something you really need and can't find, let me know, next time I go there I will take a look for you.

Lookin forward to the pics.

Jason
