I rebuilt and hopped up my entire 22re for $2k, and that's with a NEW head!

that's redunkulous...

I'd say MAYBE half that; there's a lot of work sure, but comon... it's just the top end of the motor... maybe 16 hours of labor for one guy, POSSIBLY two, the gasket set and new head bolts, and the resurfacing of the heads...

but then again, I'm purly throwing out a guess; I've never had a shop do such extensive work personally, I've always done the work myself

Is this your Daily Driver? Do you have the time to do it yourself? I have a 95 3.0 that I just did both head gaskets on.
I ended up paying for:
Head resurfacing , 3 exhuaust val (burned), presure tested, 150.00 per head
The rest was all my time, 100.00 for the gaskets, water pump, timing belts, and tensioner.
All in all the job was to bad and Yotatech centainly helped.

I'd get a few more quotes then... 2k is way too much you can buy a whole motor for that. Post on here maybe someone in your area needs work? That is if you can't/don't want to do it yourself.
