help on rear main seal for 3vze engine

help on rear main seal for 3vze engine
i installed a new rear main seal but it has failed is there away around without changing it or just buy a new one and i need to know how far to have this seal pushed in. i was told to have it either flush or 1/8 of an inch pressed in but i need help guys any suggestions would be very helpful
