Mini AZ4RJ - for Southern California People - November 9th 2002
Mini-AZ4RJ for Southern California Toyota 4Runner and Truck owners.
Here are the details:
1. Friday November 8th, drive to Tempe, Arizona. You can either stay in one of the many hotels right by my house of camp in my back yard. Since this is a one-day event and we are going to run Florence Junction, which is 30 minutes from Tempe, I really do see any point in setting up an elaborate campsite for just one day.
2. Saturday November 9th, Californians meet at my house at 8:00am and we'll head out to Florence Junction as a group at 8:20am. Local Phoenix area people will need to meet up with us at the Florence Junction Texaco at 9:00am.
We will run one of the many trails out at Florence Junction depending on what kind of 4Runners/Trucks show up from California. If alot of 2WD 4Runners come then we'll do an easy trail. If the 2WD guys want to ride along and not drive, we'll do a header trial. If it's just Curt and me we may very well do Martinez Canyon. More than likely we'll run the big loop out there consisting of Box Canyon, Martinez Cabins, Coke Ovens and BattleAxe Road. I think even the 2WD guys can make this one with a little help.
3. Sunday November 10th, Head back to California.

If you are going to attend this event e-mail me with the hotel you are going to stay at and I will give you directions to my house. If you want to camp in my back yard let me know that as well too. It's going to be too cold to go swimming though.
I am still shooting for a much longer and larger event in March of 2003 which will be held at Lake Pleasant. An established campground will be used for that event.

Do you know when in March you're shooting for this event? I'd possibly be willing to make the 1300 mile trek.

Well I haven't had experience with much off-roading except for whats around here (which aren't hard). I'm up for a challenge
Time to wheel with the Big Boys
I feel the need for a set of sliders also after watching your video

I'm in for Nov 9. I be coming in Friday morning and do that tire thing.
Save a spot in the back yard for me. Is it cool if I stay Fri and Sat nights and head out Sunday morning? Hope no bears visit. Steve, do you have parking for however many trucks show up. I'd hate to piss off your neighbors.

Looks like 4 from out of state and ??? from the local guys. Probably 5-10. That's fine.
Probably the easier Coke Ovens unless everyone wants to do the harder canyon. Which is alot harder. Stock bumpers will not make it through with out scrapes.
We will be in Martinez Canyon eiher way, it's just if we do the mine trail of go to the ovens. Which is alot more challenging than anything we saw in Colorado.

For anyone who wants to caravan from North Phoenix to Florence we will meet at 6:45 at the K-Mart parking lot on I-17 and Dunlap. It's on the West side of the freeway. We will leave no later than 7:15 so plan accordingly. See ya there!

Hey Steve thanks for the leading the run! It was the best run I have ever done! I even made it with my bald BFG's. I hope to see everyone that came out again on some other trips. Hopefully I will be able to get some Wild Yoat runs going soon!
Later,
Josh (Wild Yoat) P.S. Mrs. Yoats says hi and she wants to go on another run soon! She hated 4wheeling until this trip! Now she was sad to leave on Sat.
