22RE rebuild...Working the Kinks out
So i just rebuilt the 22re in my 87 4runner. Had about 140k on it...blew a head gasket and decided to do a full rebuild since I had a little time and could use the experience.
Anyhows, I've got it all back in. After working the timing out and adjusting the TPS and AFM the engine is running fine. I've put about 600 miles on it and am averaging about 21-22 highway. Its got a new engnbldr head and cam on it and lcengineerings exhaust header. I'd like to put a new cat and muffler on it since the current cat was gutted when I bought it and the muffler's shot.
The big problem I've got right now is it takes forever to start if I haven't run it that day. If I'm starting it for the first time it has to crank over like 10-15 times or more before it begins to catch. Then once it catches it runs fine.
I've troubleshooted with the TPS and AFM as well as the FP and B+ terminal as far as fuel pump. Still haven't figured it out. A couple people have mentioned either a vacuum leak, but I'm confused on how to check this and wouldn't this effect the running...not just the start? Any other ideas or ways i can troubleshoot...cause its kinda embarrassing when you've got to crank it over a ton of times in the parking lot.

Yeah i was thinking that it might be the cold start injector. Would I be able to test that just by pulling it out, undoing my coil and cranking the engine over to see if i've got a spray?
Oh and I didn't actually check my voltage at the FP terminal...though when I jumper that with B+ and the key is in the run position, i can hear the fuel pump running. SO i assume there's voltage there.

I've been doing a bunch of research and figure that my problem could very well be the starter time switch or thermo time switch. Its not opening the cold start injector.
Does anyone know what this is called on any of the parts websites or the local parts stores. they don't have the exact name and I don't want to get the wrong part...it looks like the water temp sensor right next to it is very similiar.
