On my 4x4 I have a factory chrome stock bumper. Is the smittybilt double tube black bumper stronger and will it protect better?

Also will a grill guard that was on a 1989 4x4 truck ( not a 4runner) fit a 1986 without modification?

Ask Elton how strong a Smittybilt is. He backed into my front and put a nice dent in his stock bumber. My front Smittybuilt...not a scratch. Amazing.

 

haha yea they work fine no match to the paper thin stock bumper

 

My smittybilt has been in an end over end roll over on another truck. Definately stronger than stock

 

yes they are stronger. there not the strongest of bumpers but have saved my butt before against many trees and one wreck. ohh and the only complaint i have with mine is they rust like crazy!!!!

 

yes they are stronger than any stock bumpers and they look really nice on the 4x4 pickups or on the 1st gen runners

 

They are called Shi*tybuilt for a reason. If you live where their is no rust then you will be fine but soon as the rust they are junk. Powder coating does not last. I would highly recommend a Marlin, Trailgear or a WabFab rear bumper over the Shi*tybuilt. It will last longer and they are strong as hell. You get what you pay for!!

It's all about the proper coating.
Sandblast, etch primer and then an enamel paint
If the steel isn't prepped right, or bad primer or bad paint. A failure in any of these will cause rust.
I picked up a junkyard single tube bumper, sandblasted it to bare steel, two coats of primer and two coats of paint (with good drying times in between).
The paint is on there until the next sandblasting now. It's surviving rocks from my back tires.

 

mine started to rust so i had it blasted and rhino lined no more rust and it certainly pissed off the guy who ran his camry under my 4 runner destroyed the paint on his hood and i had to wipe his paint off other then that perfection

 

They are nice, but once they start to rust...they rust.

Smittybilt never got rust protection right...
