is there any way to mod the bumper lights to be constantly on and still flicker with the turn signals. I'm thinking it would be something similar to the fog light mod but just connecting the bumper lights to the side markers, since they stay on constantly and still flicker with the turn signals. Any suggestions? Thanks

 

maybe go to a junk yard for some 1157 bulb sockets that way you have a low running light and a bright turn signal

 

I think I need to clarify a little better what I'm asking for.. Basicly look at it this way... on a 3rd gen 4R lighting column you turn it once and the side markers come on. I want the bumper lights (which only come on when you flip the turn signals) to come on like the side markers and stay on. But not lose the flicker from the turning. I guess in a nutshell, I want the Bumper lights to do exactly what the side markers do. Simple enough.

 

yup and you will need 1157 sockets to do so, or you can buy them at the local parts store this company called HELP! makes alot of great stuff like that. Then you will need to do a little wiring splice in to the green wire on the running lights and run it down to that and your good to go. Pm me if you need any other help with the wiring. Its to late and I'm to lazy to type out a full write up for this.

 

go to autozone or advanced, grab some bulb holders and bulbs, and drill some holds in your corners and caulk in the new bulb holder.

 

True for that, but he was talking about the bumperlights. So he'd just need the 1157 socket which is the socket for a 2 way bulb.

 

oooh, ok. I see where the 1157 socket comes into play. I didn't know there was a specific dual way bulb socket. Thanks for the info! I figured the stock 7440 socket would work if i hooked it up to the side markers, which is a dual way, but i guess not.. So, does anyone know of a 1157 socket that will fit the stock bumper light location (meaning will functionally fit by twist) or do most of them come this way. Dang, this means I gotta buy new frikkin bulbs to match the rest lol. Guess it's off to autozone or advanced. Thanks guys

 

might not be a exact fit but nothing some tape and cutting wont fix

 

yeah, they won't fit exactly, but you can buy replacement ones for Ford, that are push in, and then wire the wires that are there to the brighter filament, and the wires from the sidemarkers to the other filament

 

okay I have been thinking about this a few days now-

so you want the bumper turn signals to be turn signals and parking lights ? and you want the corner marker lights to stay as is?

I am thinking you simply need to run a jumper wire from your corner lens wiring (the parking lights) to the turn signal wiring behind the bumper.

However 1/ It's probably not legal in my state or yours
2/ I am guessing you will run the risk of shorting out the turn signal bulbs leaving them on full time and again likely not legal for them to be on full time.
3/ Ritzy Runner has done it the opposite way-with the sidemarkers serving dual function as turn signals. Perhaps this will give you the same type of results you seek and stay legal.

I got to thinkin about it and realized, "wait a minute... my corner lights dont flicker as turn signals only my bumper lights do." But yes you are right Ron, i do want my bumper lights to serve as dual purpose lights (a parking light and a turn signal). I don't see why it would be illegal though. On my jeep cherokee i use to have, it had side corners and parking lights that both served as dual purpose and that was stock. It might be illegal but I don't think too many cops will stop me for it or make a big deal. Worse comes to worse I get a warning and undo it.

Do i need jumper wire or could I possibly run normal wiring that has a fuse built into it? I could just run it from the side marker light to the bumper light like you said. 2 things I'm wondering about is, could this cause a reverse effect and make the side markers flicker and yes, I'm worried about causing blow lights and blown fuses.

 

Okay I see your point about the legality-and yes I doubt the average police would even notice it.

I think a simple jumper wire would work but honestly do not know. Hence my warning to have the fuses ready and as you say-replacement bulbs also.

the 1157 socket will have 3 wires a ground/high/low take the low wire and tap it into the hot side of the parking light wont hurt anything

 

well wait a sec you have a 99 4runner i dont think the use that type of bulb might have to take some 7443 bulb holders of a 4runner

What are you talking about jumper wires for? Plain and simple just use 2 small relays. Just tap the switch side of the relay to the turn signals. I'm not sure as far as the socket goes for wiring but if you you jumper wire you will cause the bulb with the highest resistance to be dim (current flows to the path of least resistance). Of course you'd want to put a single fuse inline with the power 12v power side of the relay close to the battery. You wont blow a fuse unless you have a short to ground.

 

i think im just gonna go with a 7443 socket. Seems like the safest way to go. I checked out a couple pictures comparing them. the 7440 socket has 2 wires and the 7443 has 3. Do i wire up the two like normal and just run the 3rd wire to my side corner lights? I don't see why it wouldnt work that way.
