I assume it's rather simple just cut here cut there remove damaged body panels then engine mounts, then unplug (take comparison photos old/new before/after), pull it and thats it. If my memory serves me this motor has 100k and should be a prime candidate for a SC before it gets swapped in over the course of the next year . I'm not sure if I need the ECU out of the donor as it is a 02 Taco DBC with slightly different tranny and t-case.

lucky dawg we cant find a totaled taco with the 3.4 or 2.7 in az.

cool, i did mine in the drive way. most of the plugs only fit one hole, only had to mark some vacuum hoses. the biggest pains where the plugs over the tranny for the 02 sensors.

 

What are you planning on doing to the motor besides a supercharger? I am looking at having to do something with mine soon. I have several leak (rear main, another one, another one, another one, etc.) I am thinking it's gonna take pulling the engine to get at all of the seals etc, and while I am at it, and it's time for the whole timing belt fiasco (211,000 miles on my 5vz), so I have some work ahead of me. I am looking at making some performance mods, and would like to start in the internals if that's possible. I would like to see if I can find some camshafts to throw in there for some torque and freshen the old girl up a little bit. I was just curious to see if you had any ideas about that kind of stuff. It's going to be a while before I can get it all done, but I am poking around to try to get some ideas.

Yeah I'm not mentioning names, but in TC's defense the other side maintained integrity and the side that snapped actaully lost the 36" MTZ that was attached to it. To this day it was never found near the wreck location, lost in the marsh. The Bent up bumper like the TC folded when it hit the ground and rolled at high speed, nothing else would have fared any better. No LC setup just TC with 6" Fabtech (crap) lift.

Very educational. I'm doing the same thing this weekend with an '00 2wd 4Runner. I broke a valve and punched a hole in a piston Any thoughts if there will be any issue putting a motor from a 2wd rig into a 4wd. I was thinking there might be some extra sensor wires or something.

 

For What its worth I used Downey's headers on my swapped motor. I have a 2" body lift and didn't have any problems however its a tight fit. The Downey site did say it wouldn't work but it did. YMMV

 

You have a 95 with a 3.4 the engine bay is different on the 96-02's

While going to extract the engine I found the Hook on the drivers side but not sure if it will support the engine and the tranny too, not to mention a it doesn't look like the load will be evenly distributed. Any thoughts on proper engine extraction points would be helpful.

I used to just bolt some heavy duty chain to the motor and use that. There has to be some bolt holes you can use.

 

I have swapped 5 or 6 of these between vehicles, I usually just wrap a chain around the motor mounts. I usually always take the intake manifold off so it's not in the way and depending on the transfercase setup you might have to swap the engine harness. Manually operated 4x4 do not have all the wires and plugs that button shifted ones transfercases do. If you got any questions just let me know.

 

I was actually considering swapping the tranny and the t-case in as I think it's the good ole J pattern but maybe not we will see what happens. The motor came out or off rather without any problems just used some heavy duty straps as apposed to chain for the motor. It will be a month or two before the swap takes place. If I swap the tranny and the t-case I will have to check the connections and see if it's an easy swap.
