Exclamation noob ifs question

my inner cv boot broke there is grease everywhere, i decided to look under the truck after it started to pull to the left a little and im pretty sure the cv is wrecked. i have no money what so ever and my question was how hard is it to pull the whole front axle and diff, or do i even need to?

thanks

Does your truck have manual locking hubs? If so, just unlock the hubs and be done with it.

If not, just leave it until you get some money. Its not hurting anything.

You can just leave it in the open position if you have manual hubs. If you have ADD, I'd say just pull the CV out and whipe the grease off so it doesn't get any messier down there.

You can leave the diff, its not going to hurt it if there's no CV attached.

If you pull the axle out (as opposed to just leaving it in as Deathcougar suggested), won't that make it so dirt can invade the diff bearings much easier? I would think leaving it on would be better protection for the diff. I don't know, I'm asking.

Right. You can't pull the axle. CHances are all that needs to be done is replace the CV boot- which costs about $15 if you do it yourself. It isn't had to do either.

i pulled both the half shafts out and the diff is sealed so nothing comes out of there the only thing is it leaves the wheels bearing exposed, the outer cv is not sealed to the spindle anyway so there are slightly exposed to begin with, i made temporary covers for the bearings out of canvas and zip tied them on...it seems to be working very well, i will put new ones in when i get my paycheck
