Inspecting/replacing auto tranny fluid filter
For a 99' 4Runner 4x4, V6, auto, what are the ways to get the tranny fluid dump pan off?
I tried knocking it with a mallet for the past 15 minutes and it's still on pretty good.
btw, I'm on 60k miles and just performing the major maintenance items.
The auto feels fine and shifts great, but I guess it's good to check the filter.

GENTLY use a wedge or scraper to get the pan started. Be ready for the fluid to start coming out (unless it has a drain plug). Clean the surfaces and install the new filter. Guestimate how much is in your drain pan and add slightly less than your guess. It is easier to add more than it is to remove some.

Exactly as above,
I bent my pan getting it off with a screw driver. sTUpiD!!! Use a putty knife and don't pry it, just "break the seal" by pushing straight in. The filter kits are cheap. You should just go ahead and replace it while your in there. The filter kit I got came with a cork gasket and worked out really well. It had no gasket when I removed it and was sealed with red silicone gasket (ultra copper). I'm just a little concerned about the cork failing (maybe someone could address this). I checked the transmission fluid while cold and at running temp just to be sure.
Good luck,
Sam
