Water pump impeller Wore through the back plate and now serious coolant leak

Hello all,

Nice to be back after leaving earth for a while. A new and first child will tend to do that but I am back and need your help as allways.

PROBLEM. (not my 3vz but a friends 22re)

Water pump impeller Wore through the back plate and now we have a serious coolant leak.

Question? How hard is it to change the timming belt cover? Cost? and is it worth the work?

I will post some pics but I am at work now.

Thanks everyone

more of a PITA than anything else. removing all the front crap, coolant, etc...... if he gets a new timing chain cover make sure he gets the right one. measure it length wise, they had some about 1/8" longer/shorter than the other and they will not interchange.
also to EVERYONE, YES it is worth the work. you don't learn anything when you take your truck to the shop, except subtraction (from your wallet).
but then again that is my opinion and i like to know as much about my truck in case i am having trouble with it i can fix it myself.
good luck

Grab a cover from engnbldr and go from there. Might aswell do a timing chain job if the motor has miles on it. You gotta tear the motor down a fair bit to get to that point.

You shouldnt have to drop the diff since you shouldnt have to be fishing bad timing guides out of the oil pan, and the head can stay on...

A two day job if you have never done it before..

thanks for the advice. I will pm engnbldr about the part. But I might look at a rebuilt or performance 22re instead. Any thoughts on a good source?
