22R Rattling Under Load
When I'm goin up hills my 22R starts rattling until I put my foot down more, then it goes away.. I am hoping it's carb related and not rod bearings or timing chain.. It sounds like it's in the back of the engine..?
It only does it doing 40-50mph up hill in 3rd, 4th and 5th... Only once the power starts dying and the revs are dropping to about 2,500rpm, when I shift it down to 3rd or 4th it stops rattling. It doesn't do it at cruising speed/RPMs (60mph @ 3,100RPM damned 4.88s and 31s)
Any input would be appreciated..

yeah only when it's under load man.. definately coming from engine.. Cannot possibly be driveline, i have new clutch, new rear, new uni joints in drive shafts.
Kinda hoping it's nothing like rod bearings, the noise is pretty loud i can hear it with all windows up, and it's worse with the windows down.

sounds like rod bearings..... or if your high in elevation it could be carb but if its loud it sounds like bearings... if your truck is lifted pull that oil pan and change them before they get to bad it only takes an hour and a half..

Alright, I will drop the pan in a few weeks, my girlfriend loses her license officially in a week so I will have her Focus to drive while the truck is getting worked on! Thanks man.. I will get my retired mechanic neighbor to give a 2nd opinion...
I hope the bearings aren't hard to replace...
The 22R has 140,000 miles, I have wheeled it pretty hard for the last 25,000 with the engine regularly seeing 5500rpm.... If the job is too hard I will more than likely get a 1997 22R as they discontinued then.
Thanks for the input dude!
