It would be helpful if you gave a description of your engine. The MS will not give you much advantage over the stock EFI if your engine is stock. The MS is designed to take over when the stock comp can't handle it anymore. Turbo, supercharger, lots and lots of bolt on goodies.

That is not to say that MS is only for highly modified engines, but it is doubtful that the average user will dial in a stock engine as well as Toyota's R&D department did. It is just more worthwhile to use it on something that needs serious alterations to the tune anyway.
There doesn't seem to be much information about what is possible as far as chipping/modding/flashing(?) the stock ECUs. Some people have mentioned sending their ECU to JET for "tuning," but to me that means that there is potential for the DIYer as well.

I'm not talking about sending an ECU to JET, I'm talking about the possibility of reprogramming the ECU at home and doing things that JET won't like a mass air conversion.

the jet chip isent werth the money cause you can do the same thing wit MS. ms my be a little more money but you have complete controle of your engine vs with the jet chip they tune your computer with the mods you all ready have and if you want to mod it more you would have to send it back to get updated witch would be a nuther 400+

If your thinking more juice in the cylinder will give you more power. Well....
Just not going to get crazy amount of power from the 22re, just not going to happen. If you seeking the power swap engines. It'll be cheaper and more satisfying in the long run.

yes i no the 22re is not a power house, and it doesn't make a lot of power , and i no and engine swap is more cost effective. but i like a challenge and swapping in an engine is not a challenge for me.

yeah i no i don't right now but my motor is getting rebuilt soon due to a rod knocking. so im planing on running 10:1 compression pistons. and i know it would be a bitch to try to tune a high compression 22re with factory efi and ignition.

Honestly...trying to make HP on the 22re is pointless. Sure, some have done it and even fewer have succeeded. I have the turbo 22re and i would love to make it a monster, but it would cost A LOT of money just to hit 200HP. Remember, this is with a turbo too. Using a higher compression piston would not justify MS either...you will be fine with your ignition setup and won't change your fuel need with higher compression. What will you need to "tune"? Your not going to be using forced induction, so you have no need to raise fuel levels with boost levels...i understand you want more HP, but its not easily done with this engine.
