Erratic speedo and other warning lights

Hey everyone,

Thanks in advance for any help that you may provide. I did search around and no other threads that I found addressed my issues.

About a couple of months ago, my speedometer stopped working while driving. After a few miles it started up again and then it was fine for the rest of the day. All along, the odometer stopped as well but everything else worked, tachometer, lights, etc. This went on every once in a while. I could never figure out a pattern that prompted this issue.

After a couple of weeks of not happening, it happened again, except this time, the check engine light came on. I pulled over, turned it off for a few minutes, started it up and everything worked fine.

The next week, it happened again except that the speedometer needle started moving up and down erratically. While this happened, the engine would not respond to my acceleration. It would rev up the engine but the car would not move. Same feeling as if it was in neutral. I kept going and it all went away and everything went back to normal.

Today everything happened again, except the O/D light started flashing. I am wondering what the hell is happening. I went to Autozone but the light was off by then and they can't pull the codes unless the light is on.

It's a 934Runner, 204,000 miles. All mods are in my signature.

Thanks everyone.

speed sensor woul dbe a good place to start. If the check engine and o.d light came on, there are stored codes.

This link has all the info you need, and then some. It will show how to pull your codes, and tell what they mean.

Just scroll down to the emmissions section under 3vze... to pull the trans codes look under the section for a340h....good luck
