Rear axle width's on ifs trucks
I bought a 90 rear axle housing with the intention of putting the axle shafts in my 86 4Runner rear. I noticed that the axle shafts out of the 90 are 1/4" longer than the ones I have. I measured the width of my axle from the backing plate mounting flange to the other flange (since the axle's are out) and it is approx 51.25". I measured the 90 housing and my buddy's 90 truck and it is about 52.00". I know that the 85 and earlier trucks the axle width's were 3" shorter, but I'm only dealing with 3/4" difference. Will putting shafts in a 1/4" longer matter?
I don't have the third in, but I can put it in and see if the axle will slide in and if I have a 1/2" of room in the carrier. If they fit, should I run them?
Could I run one of the shorter ones and one of the longer ones?
Thanks for the help.

I believe so, I got one side in to check and it fit. But that seems strange, I assume if they fit its ok to run them. I know I can measure, but my housing being 1/2-3/4" shorter than a 90 short bed truck? Doesn't seem to make sense.
