Indy Mechanic or Toy Shop Needed in SoCal
Hi... My 1987 22RE has just developed a small head gasket leak that needs repair. I am looking for a decent independent mechanic or shop in SoCal (Riverside, area) to do the head gasket repair and change the timing chain at the same time. Vehicle can be driven almost anywhere. Any suggestions on who to go to or shops to avoid are appreciated.

My mechanic is in rowland heights, They know they're toys..
Yagi, The owner is japanese and speaks enlish but it might be a little hard to understand him..
Shouldnt charge too much for what you said, Although if your doing the timing chain get the metal guides rather then the OEM plastic ones..

Thanks
Scuba,
Thank You for the lead. My s.o.'s family lives in Rowland Heights so I know the area well. I talked with the shop and they told me that 22RE's weren't worth fixing and quoted me $1500, about the same as a Toyota dealer.
Another Toyota shop in the area, DVsmogPro's in Walnut, also gave me about the same answer.
I hope I can find a Toyota mechanic that needs outside work (Or just work for that matter)

Not worth fixing a head gasket on a 22re? MEH!!!
1500? You can put a NEW head and timing chain on it for less than half that if you're willing to do the work yourself.
If I were home, I'd say bring it over and Scuba and I would fix it for the price of parts and some beer and BBQ. Unfortunately, I'm a fair way away from home, and will be for a while. So Scuba would have to do all the work, drink the beer and eat the BBQ himself.
...Oh, and he'd have to use his tools.

Wow, That sucks, last year I had 2 engines pulled, one dropped back into a truck new cooling system and all fluids, I mean all, Plus various hoses, All for ~~1600..
I guess thats may be because my dads brother taught yagi everything he knew.. IDK ?!

Do you know the name of who you talked to..?
