I ended up paying $375 PLUS $19 for "shop material".. and then tax.. Anyways take a look at the link below, I have a few pics of the work he did.

Namely:
1)Weld on a pair rock sliders.
2)Cut stock tire carrier off frame and reweld it 3" higher to offset 3" bodylift.
3)Weld rear portion of stock tow package to end of frame.

He ended up welding the rock sliders to the body mount brackets INSTEAD of my frame. It does make the sliders stick out maybe an inch more. My questions on this: Is this going to hold my truck via hilift jack, or a rock slamming my sliders? The tow package and tire carrier lift looks great. The tow package is flush with the bumper and as high as possible, he sized it fit a max 32" tire. He used the "side" portions of the stock tow package to do this (if anyone wants details on this let me know). I still have to sand/paint the rear on the welds. I rubbercoated my sliders and tow package beforehand.

I donno man, I feel kinda sketchy about the body mount weld job. Not liking the the beads look. but, I m no welder.

 

welp not much use worrying about it now but i wouldn't go back to that shop.

sliders are hard to do properly but this is the easy way out. measurements arnt that critical if your just pinning them to the body mounts. your original post people defended the price thinking it would be a first rate job to fetch that price. i didnt look at the other things but those sliders went on quick and dirty.

is he a offroad shop? just wondering why he chose the body mounts.

I would be embarased to even post pictures like that. Im sure you were expecting better too. If I had welds like that on a tow hitch I would never use it. Definatly go get your money back. Hell for that much money you could have bought you own welder...

They welded to the body mounts. You have to be kidding me. On top of that, that has to be some of the worst welding I have ever seen!

For that money, you should have driven over to Alabama and had Wabbit weld them on. At least then it would have been done correctly. First time you hit a rock, those body mounts are going to bend.

 

yeah man, I'm sorry but that looks horrible...those sliders are useless

 

WHAT?!? He welded to the body mounts!? I would cut them off and have someone weld them bench weld 1/4" plate to the tubing and then weld the plate stright to the frame.
This guy obviously does not use common sense in designing a strong mounting layout. He can lay a bead but based on this display i would not call him a fabricator.

Here's how i would do it (Good luck making sense of it : )


Edit: See how when i welded my clevis mounts i wrapped some 1/4" plate around the bumper then welded my mount onto the plate? I would do that with the slider then add some gussets




Take a minute and THINK about this logically. Wouldnt it make sense that the more weld area you can get on the frame would make it stronger? The frame is only 1/8+- so your sliders will only be as strong as the weld area on your frame right? So burn the HELL out of the tubing onto a plate, then get tons of weld area from the plate onto the frame. Add those gussets since they are load bearing. They wont be going anywhere

 

yeah dude you got screwed. the guy that welded my sliders welded on to plates (that he he felt would be better) and then to the frame. it cost me about 70 bucks to have done and he had to cut and grind the legs on the sliders. i would ask for my money back and turn him into the better business agency of your area. he is obviously not a certified welder with that shotty work.

 

little bit of an over kill here Al lol. but your right it will never ever go anywhere. I like it, looks BEEFY!!!
a good weld with .030 wire is rated at 6000 lb per inch. your more likely to rip the metal right out side of the weld than the weld itself.

 

When I first seen this thread posted, it looked like it said WabFab and I read your post and seen the pictures and I thought he was drunk when he welded the sliders on. Then I looked again and found out it wasn't him I seen pictures of his work and it is top notch and I got a little confused thinking what did he do? But it was not him. Yeah I would not go back to that guy who did the work.

Yea I dont think the sliders will hold up being welded to the body mounts.

Did you even tell the guy what those sliders are used for , I dont think you did and obviously the welder did not know either, if he did I dont think he would have welded them there.

 

I'm so pissed off you guys have no idea. I knew he took the shi!!y easy way out... NOT ON MY CLOCK AND HARD EARNED MONEY

He will cut the welds off my body mounts carefully... get knew longer connecting pipes... and weld to my frame using the squares and little triangle braces like I originally supplied him. No wonder he wasn't there when I went to pick my vehicle up. damn this im callin the bbb if he tries charging me anything.

this is such a PITA..... will those welds be ok for the Hilift jack??????

 

Whoever did the work needs to take himself out back for a little chat... This is why I do my own work and dont let anyone touch my stuff. thats just rediculous and I would make him give you your money back. And to let him do more work to fix it??? did you not learn the first time???

 

Even if he used the supplied parts, he cant lay down an overhead thats worth a rats ass i would get your refund and go somewhere else
