I've lurked, searched and read (not necessarily in that order) and have decided to go with an OME lift for my 1999 SR5 (121,000) runner. However, now I have several nay-sayers telling me that it's too old to put a lift on it. (None of them own a Toyota)

I'm committed to keeping it for as long as I can get parts. Is there a draw back on getting a lift now with so many miles on it?

It's my second vehicle and I use it minimally as my DD and want the added lift + off road capability.

Maybe it's just assurance I'm looking for...

 

as long it runs well and you can drive it long enough to get your money out of the lift, Lift It! i put a 3" on mine when it had 180,000 miles on it. Tell the nay-sayers that at 120,00 a Toyota is just getting broke in..

Seriously??? I got my 96 with 161K, lifted it, and its still running strong at 226K. You'll easily see another 100K out of that thing.

 

a '99??? Pffftt... That thing is brand new.

imo... never too old to lift.

 

If anything, you'll be replacing your old stuff with new components at least.

I just put a lift on my 99 Taco..Never to old man..

Keep an eye on your lower ball joint if you do lift..
I've seen/heard of horror stories where trucks get out of control because the lower BJ separates

 

it.. my lower balljoints look dead... another thing to replace now!

and both my inner cv joint boots are completely torn on the smaller fastener..

maybe that's why my truck popped loud a couple times at 85mpg this morning..

1999 that is brand new for a toyota they say its too old bc they more than likely drive disposible cars......im lifting my 89 that has 136xxx on engine and tranny and itsfine and never been beter do it

 

yah, I lifted mine with a bunch of miles. gives you an excuse to look at ball joints, tie rod ends, get new shocks with your kit. etc.

I sas my dd at 200k miles... Why would you not lift it, especially if it is a second car, blow up the motor put a v8 in it, roll it make it a buggy. I mean you cant ever not fix something.

 

I did mine between 100k and 125k.

 

My saved from the crusher 94 has fresh lift on it, it's nothing more than putting a fiew "replacement" parts in with "better quality" stuff... Too old to lift? They must be domestic mall crawler lovers...
