Wheel fitment with Tundra Brakes

So I learned this week that Tundra brakes don't fit with Stock 2000 4runner 16" split spokes. The caliper hits the wheel. I'm running '05 Tundra rims anyway but my spare is the stock 4runner steelie. Will I have issues running the steelie as a spare?

Are you using 231mm Tundra calipers? Is your spare the stock spare steel wheel or do you mean you're using a normal stock steel wheel from a 4Runner (the ones that the truck would have been riding on from the factory). They are not the same. The stock steel wheels that came mounted on my 2002 4Runner will clear the 231mm Tundra calipers, but my stock spare steel wheel (black one) doesn't fit over the calipers. See picture of the stock wheels that fit the 231mm calipers below.

231mm? I have the calipers off a later 04-05 Tundra which I believe is bigger. I don't know the size.

I am talking about the stock 16" spare black painted steelie. So I going to assume it wont fit. I'll be looking to get my spare mounted on another rim them. Thanks. This may save me a big hassle. Fortunately I haven't had a flat yet.

OK. You probably have the larger ones then... based on the year. You can tell which calipers you have for sure by looking at the casting marking on the calipers. The 199mm calipers will have S13WE cast into them and the 231mm calipers will have 13WL cast into them.

So... if you already have the calipers mounted, you could always try your spare on... couldn't you? There would be no rush to buy a new rim... Even if it doesn't fit over your calipers and you get a flat on one of your front tires, just put your spare on the rear and move your rear to the front.

I suppose I could try it. I guess I wanted to avoid the extra work. The stock alum wheels that came on my 2000 don't fit for sure. I tried that one when I first put the brakes on but didn't test the spare.

GS, your OEM steelies are excellent. I've never seen those.

I don't mind them, but they are starting to show signs of rust. I'd love to get them sandblasted and painted black, but I'm affraid the new paint wouldn't hold up, and I'd be having to redo them too often.

Look at my avatar - powder-coated steelies on the trucklet (miss it).

Powder-coating is cheap, it sticks, it's easy to balance and you can do it in whatever gay color you like.
