Stiff Manul Hubs

So I got a set of manual hubs from a junk yard and when i had them on at first they worked fine and ive taken them through some mud and water. But i was looking them today and they lock fine but the problem is going back into free. So i took them apart and cleaned that one side up, lubed it up everywhere but its still real stiff about half way going to free. Any places so i should put more lub somewhere or something? Anything would help. Thanks.

try pulling just the cover off, and applying a little bearing grease to the hub dial O-ring so that it slides easily

also, apply a little to both the grove the O-ring sets in on the dial, AND the recess in the cover itself, so that the O-ring can slip around on either

I ran into the same thing after rebuilding my hubs the first time, and this solved all of my issues

on a side note, be sure you don't put TOO much grease on the inside of the hub itself; this will cause the splines inside to create a suction, and can cause the hub to not unlock; but that won't cause the dial to be hard to turn

very possible as well, good point

be sure you don't loose that little steel ball either or you'll HAVE to order a little kit like that to replace it, lol

Good luck, and let us know what you find!

I dont see how that little tiny thing would have anything to do with the hub face not wanting to move

Check inside the hub, make sure you didnt use TOO much grease, a light coating is all thats needed.
Also make sure that none of the parts are bent or anything.
If you look in the first link deathcougar posted ^ there, youll see this :

In my case this was bent, and was making the hubs not function properly..

Good luck.
