1985 4runner motor which one to rebuild

I need to rebuild a motor for my 85 4runner project.I have two motors to choose from sitting in my garage both need rebuilt -the original 85 22re thats the early version or a 88 22re.Which would be the better one to use?

Either would be about the same to build. The engine from the 4Runner should be the same as the 88 engine though.

X2 same engine. About the only difference is the fuel injectors (and then the only difference is the connector) and the EFI ECU. Naturally you would want to keep the wiring harness and ECU that's already in the 4Runner so if you rebuild the 88 engine then you need to put the 85 fuel injectors in the fuel rail (or just use the entire intake assembly off the 85).

The original engine that was in 85 is a pre 85 22re has the domed pistons, different head .Would there be much difference in power/hp.
