Releasing brakes, thump noise and jerk action?

Hello all,

I have searched and searched for this issue. Whenever I brake, usually a little harder, after I stop, and then release the foot pedal I hear a thump coming from what seems to be the rear of the 4runner. When I hear the thump, the car kinda thumps/jerks too, and I see the shifter and 4 wheel shifter jump a little too. Any ideas. I will get the brakes looked at this next weekend, but I am worried that it isnt a caliper, or drum adjustment, that it has to do with the Drive Shaft.

Any ideas? Vehicle is a 2000 4Runner SR5 Sport 3.4L 4x4

Thank you in advance!

Well maybe I didn't search good enough. Is it possible it is the U Joint or slip yoke?

Thanks!

Axle wrap. Very common, so nothing to worry about. I'd grease the zerks, though. Very easy.

No kidding, axle wrap? I'm suffering something a little like that, but it's when I pop the trans into 2 to help slow the rig. Leaving the intersection, it binds and pops a little before the gear selectors shift back to their usual location. I figured something was binding in combination with worn out engine and trans mounts.

Who thinks soggy mounts would contribute to the movement of the axle and trans?
