Your Opinion Wanted: What else to replace while I've got the Valve Covers Off?
Hello All,
I've got a '93 4Runner with the 3VZ engine, 135k miles and counting.
This past weekend I removed the valve covers among other things to fix some oil leaks. As I was writing down a list of parts I would need to put everything back together, I started thinking about what else I should go ahead and "service" while I'm in there.
So I was hoping to hear your suggestions. Of course, valve clearance adjustment comes to mind, but what about injector o-rings (for example)?
Thanks!

welcome to YT...like Brian (wabbit) said, great post...well thought out.
I think between you and what Brian suggested it is just about covered...
If you need it, there is a link to online service manuals in my sig line...

Thanks for the help. I'm trying to find a good balance between preventative maintenance, and "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mindset.
I put dye in the coolant and noticed that there is an ever-so-small external coolant leak from the RH head gasket. In about 50 miles of mixed city/hwy driving, the coolant leak was about five drops worth.
Is it easy to remove the head & replace the head gasket without pulling the engine? Or, do you think the coolant seep is negligible?

I'd say that's a pretty small leak. I wouldn't worry about it but those motors have a history of blowing the headgasket so I'd start amassing the things needed to do both sides. Things like the head gasket, manuals tools etc. Or you could have a shop do the work. The V6s I've had looked to be a pain to take out but I dunno... never pulled one. Just my 22r
