That one oil pump bolt.....

Ok well I replaced my timing chain a few weeks ago. The truck has been running awesome ever since! But I have had a worry about it. I read somewhere recently that if the bolts arent put back where they go in the oil pump one of the bolts will hit the chain tensioner. Well I didnt do a very good job of watching what bolts went into what holes so how can I be sure I didnt do this? Would it be obvious by sound? I just have put alot of money in this truck in the past little while and I dont want to spend more.

yep .. you would know right away ....

the bolt your wondering about is the top bolt on the pump .. and is bolted into the cover ONLY ...

so if you put the wrong bolt in , it will actually go threw and contact the tensioner , and the tensioner wont be able to move ..

if indeed you put the wrong bolt in .. it would "rattle" on inital start up .

one thing people do forget to do .. is seal the bolt. Because it is oil splashed , it has a tendancy to leak threw the threads .

Every now and then I get a small rattle on start-up. I thought that was just normal. Well I have to adjust the belts on my engine tomorrow anyway. Maybe I will remove my oil pump while I have my tools out to check. Does anyone have a chart or a diagram that shows which bolts go where on the oil pump?
