I'm sure you know about the factory header conversion?

From what I have heard it can cause one or more of the exhaust valves to burn..

That is correct. A cracked manifold allows cold and unmetered air into the exhaust system, which can damage the valves among other things.

Found mine today - a pretty nasty crack (almost split in two, I think). I think it cracked earlier in the week.

1999 4runner 2.7L with 163k miles on it.

I've got to head out of town on business for a few days next week, so I'm not going to have any time to address this for at least a week or two. Do you guys see any problems with my wife driving the truck in that condition to and from work, and maybe to the grocery store for a week or so before I fix it? That'd be both city and hwy driving.

It should be fine. My truck has 260k and I just changed the manny yesterday, i'm pretty sure it had a lot of miles with a crack manifold, but now no problems.
