cheap way to get a wee bit more power out of these little unstoppable engines?
i have just recieved 2 22r's that each have a different problem that i will be combining to make hopefully one good one.
my question to you guys is, is there any cheap way to get a wee bit more power out of these little unstoppable engines? and if there is nothing small a round about price on the larger objects that you are suggesting would be awesome!

AMSOIL, you need oil anyways, it helped my power quite a bit. www.durangosyntheticoil.com

It really helped your power? I may look into it then. My truck has actually been feeling surprisingly powerful lately (for what it is), but more is always better when it comes to power in these trucks.

Huh. Guess I'll need to try it out.
I have no real personal experience, but I've heard what yotaboy posted. Header, cam, good working carb. My trucks got an engine builder mild rv cam, and a newly rebuilt carb. The truck was dying when I bought it so I don't have much to compare it with, but I've got a rebuilt engine, bored .30, mild rv cam, rebuilt carb, stock exhaust. There are times, on the highway, when it's still a total dog, but it's definitely the fastest Toyota I've owned, even compared to my '93 V6. My last road trip (and new carb) seem to have really woken it up. Maybe it's finally totally broken in. I'm really surprised at how fast I can zip around town. I've been having a lot of fun with it lately...and burning a lot of gas.

I hear you, BUT...if you rebuild the carb yourself it's around $50. Around $250 for a professionally rebuilt one. I would think you could find a used header on craigslist or this site or Pirate or somewhere like that for a hundred or two. Engnbldr.com has really good prices on cams. What's this going into? Because the best way to make up for serious lack of power is to get the right gears for those big tires..

If I was going to go synthetic on any drivetrain parts I would use royalpurple over any other hands down. Its rated the best there is by most if not all car tech sites. I plan on putting it in my trans and diffs very soon. Here watch their vids from powertv. http://www.royalpurple.com/motor-oil-m.html

If you go for a weber 38 i've heard an msd ignition goes good with it too.
But in the end its still just a gutless 22r... the amount of power you'll get from those mods is minimal and not worth the money imo mine are stock and get me around just fine.
If you're that power hungry swap in something bigger

Yeah that too. My truck is pretty zippy around town, and sometimes really does pretty good on the highway on flat ground or slight hills, but in the end...it's pretty slow. You could spend a lot of money and notice a difference, but the difference might just be enough that you notice it, and no more. I will say, the difference between having to shift into 3rd on a pass or only 4th is a huge difference, and worth spending some money. Being able to accelerate fast when getting onto the interstate or pulling out onto a country road with traffic coming is worth it, too, but often you can get that power with a tune up and a overall correctly tuned 22R.
Engnbldr has loooonnnngg posts in other places on getting the most from these engines. He's pretty responsive to giving advice, especially if you consider buying a cam from him. He could probably help you out, and let you know how much gain you'd really be getting from just spending a little money here and there. He knows it's an overall thing that includes the cylinder bore, cam, fuel, exhaust etc all working together that will give you real power increase.
I have heard that a header makes the most difference on our trucks by a couple different people, but I've also had people tell me they didn't notice much difference with their header, so....heck, there are some people who claim they feel the difference with a drop in K&N Filter...and I seriously doubt I'd trust them. So...find some experts.

I dont know, I bought a Weber 32/36 and a Redline spacer for my 20R, built a 2.25" Exhaust and it goes pretty good with 35's and 4.10's. Faster than any 4cyl S10, Ranger or Mazda ive driven.. until I get to a hill. When you open up the 2nd barrel on the Weber(3/4 throttle - full) it pulls good. I had a Weber 40 with sequential barrels and a 3" redline spacer but it didn't fit under the hood with the air cleaner, but I think that carb would have been awesome.
The biggest difference ive ever felt was fixing my exhaust leak, its 10x quieter, more powerful and the gas mileage more than doubled(no joke).I had a serious leak at the manifold, $2.35 gasket made it so much better, i also did the timing and plugs that day so that may have helped too.
So far the best thing ever was changing the motor mounts, belts and tensioner bearing, the motor runs so smooth and quiet now.
next im doing gears.. 5.29's! should make a good difference.

YOU MUST WORK THERE RIGHT???

No but he's just so helpful. Honestly before I bought anything from him we exchanged 5 or 6 long emails. He wrote me practically a full page of info on where he gets his parts and how he decides which ones he'll use. It was either this site or pirate where he posted very long very detailed info on what he's found to help these engines. A lot of people here have a lot of knowledge and experience, but Ted's the man as far as I'm concerned, and they treated me right, both with advice and parts, so I assume they'll do the same for anyone else who talks with them.

diesel, diesel, diesel ...
im going to drop in a 2l-t mod it up a bit and call it good ... extremely easy swap ... and tons of reliability.
at 260k miles and my motor is still purring it might be awhile before i change anyways
