SR5 gauge swap question.

I did the sr5 gauge swap back in Jan. And there is one thing I can't to get to seem to work. And that is the low gas light. I check the bulb and that was good. If you did the swap (years 89-95) Did the low gas light work?
I am looking for input from people that have done the swap.

Thanks

Edit: A few days ago I almost ran the truck out of gas trying to see if it works. And this is on my 90.

I did this swap on my 89 (22re) and at the first fill up I put almost 14 gallons in there and the owners manual says it's a 14 gallon tank. The light didn't come on for me either and I know the bulb is good.

You have to have the sending unit in the tank that is equiped for the extra sender for the low gas light. If your fuel sender only has two wires coming from it it won't work. You'll have to go get a sender with three wires. I don't know if the truck is prewired for that option.

Edit: Do you know if the sender will be pretty munch plug and play?

I don't think the pre 89 toyota truck/90 4runner had the gas light.
But all the trucks I seen with the SR5 cluster (89-95) had the gas light.
Maybe it's different in Canada?

Edit: I did see one 86 toyota 4x4 pickup (non SR5 cluster) at wrecking yard with a gas light. But that is the only I seen ever.

My '87 4Runner has a low-fuel light, works with both the "Deluxe" and SR5 instrument cluster.

My 1986 4Runner has a "GAS" or FUEL light that comes on when its almost empty...

My buddies pickup/other runners all have had them too as an orange square on the gas gauge in their 89-95 style.

Ok I was wrong. But do also remember I never had a 2nd gen truck also.
I just had 2 83's and my 90 and that's it.

When I did the SR5 gauge cluster swap into my '89 DLX truck I had to replace the stock fuel sender with one that also has the fuel level sensor. The newer sender has the same pigtail, only four wires instead of two. Additionally, I also had to add a wire from the connector to the reserve light on the gauge cluster. If you have a transmission jack, it only takes about 10-15 minutes to drop the fuel tank to swap the fuel sender.

I have been doing a little digging and here is what I found. According to the 90-95 4 runner manuel the connector has 3 wires one for the guage one for the light and one to ground. I went out to pick and pull yesterday and verified that the 4 runner only has 3 wires. The one I got from the stealership was as cadman said 4 wires. So sense I know that 2 of the wires are for the guage I'm just not sure where the other two go I assume one goes all the way to the cluster but i'm not sure which one of the two and also where does the other wire go. I tried tis but I could not find a electrical wiring diagram for 90 pickups. any one else run into this? Or if someone would be so kind to scan that page out of their electrical wiring diagram. thanks

just in case anyone else runs into this cause TIS doesn't have the EWD for 90 trucks and the 4runner is slightly different. All 4 wires are run to the tank from the body eventhough only 2 are used on the dlx model. They run to a plug under the passenger seat. From there the one yellow-blue needs to be run up to connector D-3 on the cluster and voila low gas light.
