BIG 3 wire upgrade?
For those of you that have done this mod on a 2nd generation 4runner with the 3.0, what have you done with the old wire from the alternator to the fuse box and then the battery?
I ran a new 4 gauge wire from my upgraded 127 amp alternator straight to the positive battery post. I wasn't even going to use the old charge wire until I realized I had no power to the fuse box, so the 4runner wouldn't start.
Now I have the old charge wire connected back up on the battery side and the alternator side in conjunction with the new 4ga wire. Not the way I was hoping this would turn out, but I need the 4runner to run right now.
Is everyone running 2 wires? If not how did you eliminate the old charge wire?

I thought I have read that if you were going to run 2 wires from one component to another they should be the same size. Not one 4ga and one 8ga.

Yep...I wanted to remove the stock charge wire since I upgraded and ran a new 4ga wire. Isn't that the point? It's supposed to be an upgrade.

Doesn't matter if there the same size or not, electricity will flow through the easiest path possible if there are two, or to all components required.

Gotcha...My concern was with my 127 amp alternator I really didn't want to be putting that through that 8ga wire should it ever see 127 amps. I believe 8ga is good for around 70-75 amps where the 4ga was good for closer to 135 amps.

like stated above...the 4 gauge will act as the flood drain and if that ever fills up the 8 gauge will be there as an added rain gutter...the 8 gauge isn't going to hurt anything or fry itself. If you are really concerned about the 8 gauge then just stick a big fuse on it.
