I have read where the 30-80LE (A340-H) is a heavy slow automatic transmission. My 4 cyl 86 4x4 has 32" tires, and takes forever to get to speed. Any idea's what to replace it with (automatic-wise)? I would also like to turn it into a manual, anyone out there that has done it? Would you recommend doing it? Thanks

 

Yes, by all means swap to a manual, i did this on my 86 4Runner and it makes a huge difference in how your truck drives.
